Information Technologies for Arts and Humanities Department

The faculty of philology of St. Petersburg State University has been conducting the educational program "Applied Informatics in Arts and Humanities" since 2001. For its better realization the Department of Information Technologies for Arts and Humanities was established in 2003. The program is addressed to people who are going to implement their abilities in humanities and arts using advanced information technologies. This Program includes in-depth mastering of modern information technologies’ practical aspects, in particular the Internet technologies and study of interdisciplinary knowledge in humanities and arts.

After five years of study the graduates receive the Saint-Petersburg State University diploma of higher education with specialty "Applied Informatics in Arts and Humanities" and are qualified as "Specialists in Informatics in the field of Arts and Humanities".

On the basis of our program we are having three specializations:

  • Digital Technologies in Art (with separate sub-specializations in Computer Graphics/3D/Animation and Computer music)
  • Digital Collections
  • Social Technologies in Global Networks

The professional activity after graduation may be related to information technologies use in various fields:
art projects, multimedia and video art, web-design and network art, digital libraries, virtual museums, web-servers administration, web search, network mass media, web PR and advertising, e-learning, web sites management, e-business and information management.
